NUMERACY IN THE INFANT CLASSROOM – CREATING PROBLEM SOLVERS

Numeracy at this age is about setting concrete foundations for learners at an early stage. Creating opportunities for children to be challenged requires them to use a range of skills previously learned and in turn learn new skills! With the new Primary Maths Curriculum upon us, this webinar will focus on integrating problem solving activities through STEM and Aistear. It will give teachers practical examples to use in the infant classroom to enhance problem solving skills and promote confidence, resilience, and divergent thinking through hands-on activities!

Learning Outcomes

  • Use open-ended tasks to enhance problem solving skills for children and critical questioning for teachers.
  • Identify the Let’s Talk Framework as a stepping stone to structure critical thinking skills for young children.
  • Design activities that promote positive learning dispositions (confidence, motivation, persistence etc.)
  • Identify opportunities in your own practice to support problem solving skills and divergent thinking.
