Autism Good Practice Guidance for Schools (Primary) 2 Day Course
This 2 Day Seminar will provide primary school teachers with an overview of the Autism Good Practice Guidance on day 1 and on day 2 the application of the Indicators of Effective Autism Practice will be used to implement literacy and numeracy for autistic
Some seminars will be delivered as short sessions over a number of days. Applicants are advised to ensure they are aware of the requirement for attendance at all sessions prior to registering for seminars. Session details for this event are provided below.
Course Content and Anticipated Outcomes
Participants will:
Become familiar with the content of the Autism Good Practice Guidelines
Engage in workshops to explore the practical application of the Domains of Support in their classrooms
Be facilitated to use the Academic section to engage autistic learners in literacy and numeracy
Supported to engage with the Indicators of Effective Autism Practice to review their own practice in the engagement of autistic learners in literacy and numeracy
Use the Autism Good Practice Guidance and companion booklet, Indicators of Effective Autism Practice as part of their literacy and numeracy planning
Content:
Day 1
Overview of Content of Autism Good Practice Guidance
Practical Strategies for implementation of Autism Good Practice Guidance in classroom practice
Consider the 8 domain areas in Autism Good Practice Guidance
Practical examples of the Indicators of Autism Good Practice to reflect on how we teach autistic students
Practical examples to use the Indicators of Autism Good Practice to consider the environment with a UDL approach
Day 2
A workshop to map the literacy and numeracy curriculum onto the Autism Good Practice Guidance
Using the Indicators of Autism Good Practice to create an Autism UDL-based Literacy and Numeracy Lesson
Practical application of the Autism Good Practice Guidance in numeracy and literacy
Participants will require permission from the Board of Management to attend. Typically, substitution for this seminar will only be allowed to classroom teachers with primary responsibility for students with a special educational need and if it is deemed absolutely essential by the Principal.
Typically substitution will only be allocated to non - substitute teachers
Payment is not available to teachers in a substitute capacity
