23-5074-SPR Learn with Code Club Programme

Code Club invites you and your school to participate in the six-week ‘Learn to code with Code Club’ programme in collaboration with Cork Education Support Centre and West Cork Education Centre. By the end of the programme, you will have developed independent coding skills to feel confident running a Code Club at your school.

The programme will run from 21 September through 26 October, with each weekly guided session on Thursdays at 10 am BST.

The programme is open to all schools NOT currently registered with Code Club, and all participating schools must register with Code Club before the start of the programme. Registration is FREE, and there are no costs for being a part of the global Code Club community. As part of the programme, educators must also attend two one-hour workshops during the first three weeks of the guided weekly sessions to build confidence and knowledge to guide their students through the coding activities offered by Code Club post the programme.

The programme consists of:

Two one-hour teacher training workshops that all participating teachers must attend.

Code Club Workshop 1: introducing the pedagogy, resources and fun! - Thursday, June 1 @ 5 pm

Code Club workshop 2: supporting coding with confidence - Thursday, June 8 @ 5 pm.

One-hour weekly student coding sessions: four guided and two self-directed sessions.

       Guided Sessions:

       Thursday, September 21 @ 10 am

       Thursday, September 28 @ 10 am

       Thursday, October 5 @ 10 am

       Thursday, October 26 @ 10 am

The coding will be focused on our successful Introduction to Scratch project path. During the programme, students will develop their skills and confidence in using sprites, scripts, and loops to write code about topics that matter to them.

Sessions 1-3: Darren Bayliss from Code Club will lead virtual codealong sessions, providing participants step-by-step instructions to complete coding exercises. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and receive support throughout the session.

Sessions 4-5: You will lead independent sessions where students will complete coding challenges independently or in pairs, using our accessible resources.

Session 6: A final virtual guided session run by Darren Bayliss. Students will apply their newly acquired coding skills to a final project, with Darren providing guidance and support throughout the session.

This programme will provide your students with an enjoyable and enriching learning experience that will help them develop critical digital skills for the future. The programme is free; all materials, teacher training, online videos, mentoring, and support will be given to each school.
