Fostering Wellbeing in the School Community - Able4Teachers

Course description

ABLE4Teachers - Fostering Wellbeing in the School Community

The course features an accredited, evidence informed brief intervention model, ABLE, which enables those who adopt it, to respond sensitively and appropriately to peers, parents and others who may turn to them for support. The programme explores a range of relational topics including:

·  family diversity in Ireland,

·  the impact of family relationships on children's health and well-being,

·  the prevalence and impact of adverse childhood experiences,

·  the effect of conflict on adult, child and community well-being.

·  factors that contribute to the creation of a safe & secure school environment

Participants who attended ABLE training in the past have noted that the programme is extremely professionally beneficial but also powerful and insightful on a personal level.  Feedback from teachers attending the similarly themed summer course last year was overwhelmingly positive, with 94% of participants agreeing they would recommend the course to a colleague.  Some comments from participants include:

“Knowledgeable, adept facilitators who presented a huge range of materials in an accessible and skilful manner”

“Most beneficial course I have done both personally and professionally.”

This is a lively, fast moving, participative course which is co-facilitated by two experienced trainers, who bring different experiences and attributes to the training group resulting in a greater sharing of skills, resources and energy. The synergy of co-facilitation along with modelling of the skills of the ABLE relational approach adds further to the learning opportunities. Trainers use a range of tried and tested adult training techniques including audio-visual learning, small group work and experiential exercises which reflects the variety of adult learning styles.
