Looking at Our SENCOs: Provision Mapping as a Strategic Whole School Response to Inclusive and Special Education in Mainstream Schools.
This presentation and workshop will explore the SENCO role in post-primary schools in Ireland and draw on research findings from a doctoral thesis examining the role. The presentation is aimed at SENCOs in post-primary schools, and members of senior leadership teams, including principals and deputy principals and will demonstrate how the School Self-Evaluation Guidelines, and the Looking At Our Schools Framework (DES Inspectorate 2016) can be used to capture inclusive and special education provision. Provision mapping as a process and as a tool to support the strategic whole school development of inclusive and special education will be presented. Rather than seeing the development of SEN policy and practice as occurring along a parallel track to whole school approaches to learning and teaching, and leadership and management of learning and teaching, this presentation aims to situate responses to inclusive and special education firmly within whole school processes of planning, implementation and review.
Light lunch provided.
