Course description

Aistear is a curriculum framework from the NCCA aimed at children from 0-6 years

This series of workshops will introduce teachers to Aistear through the following topics:

 

Workshop 1: An Introduction to Aistear - 21st March, 2019

Introduce you to Aistear and look at how some of the key ideas in Aistear can be used with the Primary School Curriculum.

Describe and show how play can be used to support children’s learning in infant classrooms and give guidelines on using the Aistear approach during the hour of child-led play/and using playful activities throughout the day.

 

Workshop 2: Planning & Organising for Play and Playful Activities - 28th March, 2019 

 

Explore what Aistear says about play including different types of play and introduce the idea of an hour of child-led play each day in single-grade and multi-grade classrooms. It will also offer practical ideas for creating a playful classroom and for planning space, resources and time.

 

Workshop 3: Language & Literacy through Play & Playful Activities - 4th April, 2019

  • Supporting children’s language and literacy through child-led and playful activities.
  • Identifying ways to assess children’s language and literacy through play.
  • Exploring how a play methodology can be used with the new Primary Language Curriculum.
  • Looking at practical ideas for working with parents to support their children’s language and literacy.
 

Workshop 4: Maths Through Play & Playful Activities - 11th April, 2019 

 

Explore in a practical, hands-on way how to use play to support maths learning and development. It will focus on the following areas:

  • Supporting children’s mathematical learning through child-led and playful activities.
  • Identifying ways to assess children’s mathematics through play.
  • Looking at practical ideas for working with parents to support their children’s learning in mathematics.
 
Certificate of Completion and Aistear book included.
