Lift off to Literacy. Collaborative Reading Recovery based literacy teaching

Course description

Lift Off to Literacy is a way to combine station teaching with the teaching methods used in Reading Recovery.

Reading Recovery tailors a literacy instruction programme for each individual child whereas Lift Off to Literacy has to cater for the needs of the many divergent learners and learning styles that present in the classroom. Both Lift Off to Literacy and Reading Recovery place emphasis on the literacy processing strategies that every child should develop to become enthusiastic readers and writers who continuously improve with every subsequent interaction with literacy. There is also an emphasis on having an integrated approach to literacy acquisition. This approach to learning promotes a natural and holistic attitude where the child sees the connections between what they say, what they read and what they can write.

In this summer course we will explore how this translates to the every day teaching of the pupils within the classroom situation, how teachers can plan and work together in a cohesive and effective way.

Assessments of and for learning are also considered so that the intervention is measurable and accountable.

This course is offered to teams of teachers - min. of 3 .  Each teacher of the team must book their own place on the course. (You may book singly if your school already has implemented reading recovery).
