Course description

Aftermath of the 1916  Rising

This course evaluates the impact of the 1916 Rising,the subsequent executions, change in public opinion,

Frongach- The University of Revolution, the rise of Sinn Fein, the Unionist reaction.

The Battle of the Somme /stalemate in World War 1, fear of conscription, and the seeds of the War of Independence.

Course will be a blend of lectures/slide presentations, fieldtrips,walking tours etc.

Willingness to travel/car pool required as course will include visits to Cobh and Spike Island, Collins Barracks, St. Finbars Cemetery, Cork Museum and and other places associated with the period

Sean Horgan has been delivering  SESE/History In service courses on behalf of CESC for the past 10 years.

He is a former PDST SESE/ History tutor and has a keen interest in local history.
